Romy du Jong

Acting Department

RomyRomy has been an avid and passionate lover of stage and cinema since childhood - hence the beginning of her acting studies.

She started dancing at the age of 4, writing at age 12 and voice at age 14. She spent one summer acting at Yale Drama School and two semesters studying theater at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Romy got her BFA in Creative Writing at Florida International University in Miami, continuing her theater, voice and dance studies. She received her MFA at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, in Creative Writing.

Her first major accolade came (at age 21) in the form of a grant (Creative Artists Public Service) for playwriting. A year later, her first off-off Broadway play (a musical) was produced at the Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn. She wrote and directed a one-act play at Temple University and had two plays produced in Philadelphia's community theater under Pulitzer Prize winner Charles Fuller.

Romy sang and acted in community theater in New York City under the direction of Geraldine Fitzgerald. In Florida, she participated in the Lake Worth Playhouse playwrite's workshop (acting and writing).

She has continued her theater studies in acting workshops emphasizing improvisation and beyond "the method."

Before coming to Showtime, Romy taught drama at the Gulfstream School in Palm Beach County.
