THEATRE
Ages 5 to Adult – All Levels
The theatre program is formulated for all levels and all interests.
The majority of the program is structured around the skills and
keys of Improvisational Theater. Within the improv structures, students
are taught the fundamentals of storytelling, character development,
scene building, comedic and dramatic structure, monologue work and
scene study, voice and speech, movement as well as TV & Film
technique. As the student progresses there will be class requirements
implemented in order to ensure the complete development of the student
actor.
Students will have the opportunity to audition for and participate
in our traveling Cabaret Troupe, as well as our professional and
children’s theatre productions throughout the year.
Acting (4-7)
An exciting introduction to the amazing world of theater. Young
people discover their own creative abilities through improvisation,
character development, games, puppetry and creative writing, resulting
in a final mini performance of principles taught. Family and friends
are invited!
Acting (8-11)
Continued Exploration of More Advanced Forms of Improvisation (Age
Appropriate)
Fundamentals of Storytelling, Listening and Building, Role Playing,
Narrative Work, Emotional Connection, Physical Exploration introduction
to Acting Techniques through improvisation. Classes focus on building
each child's comfort with being on stage, and performing simple
skits in front of classmates. Emphasis is also given to reading,
vocal projection, and character movement. Light memorization
work is introduced to begin building concentration skills - and
to enable qualified students to become candidates for roles in our live
stage productions.
Acting
(12+)
Basic Fundamentals of Improvisation (Age Appropriate Content and
Material)
Fundamentals of Storytelling, Listening and Building, Physical Exploration,
Proper Breathing, Projection and Pronunciation. Exercises include
improvisation, monologue work, scene study, theatre history, stage
movement, voice and diction. Elements of technical skill are
also introduced, including technical theatre (sound, lights), blocking
and movement. These classes are excellent for the child wishing
to improve self-confidence, comprehension, concentration, reading
and speech skills, as well as poise. It is also a great class
for children interested in characterization and acting techniques.
Song & Dance (8-13)
This group vocal class is structured around the basic fundamentals
of musical theatre style dance and singing. Students will be introduced to various
Broadway repertoire while learning scenes, dances, and songs from
musicals. Students must have prior singing experience.
